Flashback to Sullivan Hall, circa spring 2006

Yesterday, I had a chance to spend an hour sharing coffee and sweet, sweet conversation with two women who know me inside and almost out, as well.

Wendy was in town with her beautiful family — her husband, their 2-year-old daughter and their 10-week-old baby — before they head back to their home many, many, MANY miles away, where they are on staff full-time with Campus Crusade for Christ.

I haven’t spoken with her since a brief telephone call in November … of 2007. It was so fascinating to see how quickly the three of us were able to pick up in each other’s lives as if we still met weekly, as we did back when Maggie and I were students and Wendy was our discipler.

I think the best part is how our relationship has changed. Maggie and I are still MaggieandKristin (wow, we’ve been MaggieandKristin for six years, so cool) — and I’m so thankful that exists still, despite her now mostly being MaggieandShawn due to that whole getting married thing — but it’s neat to see how Wendy has moved from the role of “discipler” to “friend.” I no longer struggle with the unhealthy desire to please her and not have her be disappointed in my struggles. She’s just my friend. Who knows me. And loves me. And who I can love and support, as well, as an equal.

Maggie, Wendy and Kristin. We're pretty stinking cute. Not gonna lie.

I look at these women and am reminded that God is amazing. Just … simply amazing.
